Hi there, I am Axtyr, from Victoria in Australia. I started with my first detector in 1983, a Goldseeker 9000. It wasn't until 1986 when I purchased the Minelab Goldseeker 15000 that I got my first gold, a 3.63 gram nugget about 10 feet from the car on the first day out. I used this detector until about 1990 when I lost interest. In 2014 I purchased a 20 year old SD2000 and had it modified and used that for the next 12 months finding just under an ounce of gold. Then I purchased the GPZ7000, and recently a GPX5000 as a spare for my wife. I get out about once a week and usually come home with something although there are some spots where I have never found any gold. So that's it from me on the gold front. Good luck to everyone out there.

Hi Axtyr, thanks for joining the forum, much appreciated and welcome....... I'm looking forward to learning more.... please feel free to share anything fossicking/prospecting related. I'm also creating several other areas like shooting sports, reloading, humor (general), humor (adult) and lots of other hopefully interesting areas. If you would like a particular area and don't see it, please let me know so I can add it.

I love your backup plan, I'm the exact opposite, I have a 7 but use it as a backup to my 5 just because I'm such a lover of the 5 platform and have such a huge investment in coils but they're all great eh? Have you seen the new Garrett Axiom...it's a pretty sweet machine, no comparison of course but it sure is giving the 6k a run for it's money. Thank you again for joining... looking forward to hearing more and learning more about your adventures.

It's funny you mention getting gold so close to the car, lots of people have gotten gold on the road they drove in on, JP (Johnathan Porter) has that one one of his videos, digging a big ass hole right in the track. :)

I am sure many have driven over and camped over gold and found nothing for their trip. I always wonder how much gold is just out of reach of our detectors as I swing along.

I've found some close to the road but have always found that the trash that's been tossed from windows just does my head in so move on. The one I mentioned Johnathan Porter finding right in the middle of the track was a HUGE one, so many had just not tried checking the road.
